Welcome back to another Wednesday leadership training session!

This week is an interesting reflection on how leadership can affect people’s attitude. How will people behave differently when put into a position of power?

We’re keeping it rather simple here, not quite the Stamford prison experiment!

Sandra has recently been promoted to team leader. She has always been friendly and approachable, known for her excellent communication skills and ability to mediate conflicts within the team. However, since her promotion, Sandra has become more distant, and some team members feel she is unapproachable. They have also noticed that she is more critical in her feedback, which has affected team morale.

1. How would you approach Sandra to discuss the changes in her behaviour since her promotion?

2. What impact do you think Sandra's new approach to leadership is having on team dynamics and performance?

3. What strategies can Sandra implement to balance maintaining authority with being approachable and supportive?

It can be quite clear to see in other people, but it’s much harder to see in yourself.

You might think you’re the same person as you were before put into a position of responsibility, but it’s worth taking some time to reflect.
